An Evening in December with Sitti

>> Thursday, December 18

Love the Sitti Christmas album! My friends and I overdosed on Christmas hymns last night. It's one thing to listen to the CD and another to watch the songs done live, though.

Good thing Sitti went through a lot of interesting costume changes. My friend's officemate described her best: She's easy on the eyes. And ears.

Richard Poon was a welcome addition to the program.
He & Christian Bautista oozed with holiday charm. The audience
seemed happy.

Looking forward to the next Sitti single / album coming out.
Hope she considers a valentine concert too...
My dad loves her! The lady sure knows how to bossa nova.

The Real Cost of Christmas

>> Monday, December 15

Lifted from this Sunday's sermon at GCF

The most frequent complaint you hear from people around Christmas time is that it had become increasingly too costly. But these costs we associate with the season are nowhere near the real cost of Christ's coming into this world.

The Real Cost Of Christmas

To the main characters of the Christmas story...

  • First, understand how much it cost a young engaged couple, who had very little in the world by way of material riches, but who were required to give so much in order for the first Christmas to happen.

  • Second, look at how much the first Christmas cost hundreds of young parents in Judea during the time of Christ's birth.

  • Third, attempt to count the cost of the first Christmas from the perspective of our heavenly Father himself -- it cost him his one and only Son.

  • Finally, look at the cost of the first Christmas through the eyes of the Savior himself.

Seeing how much we have been given with the coming of the Lord into this world - a certain hope, complete forgiveness and comprehensive salvation - the high cost that was paid for Christmas is truly worth it.

Respond, therefore, in faith, joy, peace and goodwill! The Christ of Christmas loves you! :)

Enjoy the holidays

A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year old).

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolf hound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, patting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'

Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy..
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Counting Rants

>> Friday, December 5

20 days to Christmas. The house is still a sloppy insult to the "zen crib" it once was. The tree isn't up yet, neither are the rest of the decors. They're all still in their dusty boxes. Boxes scattered on the floor. Of the living room. Where they don't belong. There are vintage bikes in the dining area, more boxes of toys near the kitchen. Dirty curtains and sun screens cover the dirtier windows.

Dear me, what a monstrosity.

We have guests arriving from all over in two weeks. I am without househelp. The clutter causes shortness of breath and mild palpitations. Hating it like I'm hating my allergic reactions to everything.

Headaches visit often, and they come with the same worried whisper:

"Where do you plan to put all your junk, M?"

Where? I dunno. The guestroom, most likely.

"Waste the second guest room, why don't you... you've already pretty much befouled the other one."

Take note that the house (Sammy) only has two guest rooms. They will soon be called storage spaces. We continue to collect junk way beyond our means to contain them, much to the dismay of my worried whispers. Poor, poor Sammy.

Are we worth our weight in gold? maybe. Only because one man's junk can be another man's treasure. Dear me, what a golden mess then.

Back to the countdown.
Oh my. Oh well. Merry Christmas.

A week from now, I'll probably mean it.

Lyrics: Moonlight Mood

>> Thursday, December 4

water drops. i'm dancin'
questions pop. i'm askin'
my heart stops. quit breakin'
my moonlight mood tonight

cover me with evening
a little black dress called 'midnight'
the scent of fragrant darkness
makes my moonlight mood feel right

should we take on some moonlight romancin'
then dance, day dreamer, keep dancin'
the midnight moon is askin'
if you can feel that moonlight groove tonight

i'm tippin' my toes
into my stilletos
come with me and watch the stars shoot down
down, down, down...

goodnight sunshine

("Moonlight Mood" from the Nancy Jane album)

Lyrics: My Perfect Diet

your eyes are brown as chocolate
your lips so cherry red
a glance from you, i'm taken to
a place hard to forget

this feeling coming over me's
a hunger hard to quench
you set my appetite straight-free
now it's easiest to inch
in closer
in closer

now i'm living, breathing only you
takin' more than i can chew
but who's complainin'?
who's abstainin'?
there's no denying
you're the one for me

my perfect diet. i'm lost without you.

you're an a la carte of awesome treats
your kiss-- the sweetest wine
a smile from you
transports me to
an experience divine

this feeling coming over me's
a hunger hard to quench
you set my appetite fat-free
now it's easiest to inch
in closer
in closer

brain freeze. big tease. put your pretty mind at ease
you're my sugar rush, candy crush
make me blush again and again
hush.

now i'm living, breathing only you
takin' more than i can chew
but who's complainin'?
who's abstainin'?
there's no denying
you're the one for me

my perfect diet. i'm lost without you.

("Perfect Diet" from the Nancy Jane album)
