Snacking healthy. Sahale Snacks Sing Buri Cashews proved to be another delightful discovery. It's a blend of dried pineapples, soy-glazed cashews, peanuts, and lemongrass, dusted with mild Chinese chili. You'll be amused at how "Thai" this concoction is -- I love the taste, save for one element it would've done okay without: the dried pineapples.

They stick to the teeth like crazy. I'm not sure it would be as good, though (if they took out the pineapples). Maybe if the fruit bites were made less sticky+chewy, then I'd enjoy it as much as I did the Pecan blend. I liked it, nonetheless. Sahale Snacks are always a welcome experience for my amateur+adventurous culinary palate. heheheh

Printer For My Prints

It's the first month of the new year, usually an exciting time for serial shoppers (I appreciate the shopping experience now more than I did in December!). True retail therapy is when you don't have to think of a gift list involving people other than yourself(!) ...January, for me, spells markdowns, sales and special promos scattered all over the malls and my favorite shops online. It's when I spend (significant) time surfing the web for rare and irresistible deals.

Topping my list of must finds this month is a supplier for print material to support my photography needs. As always, high quality, discount printing is the way to go. I mentioned PSPrint before and I gotta say -- with their current (& very tempting!) marketing endeavors, they still remain one of my favorite online shops to check out for pro printing requirements. I took a look at their site today and they're printing rates are ridiculously low this whole month!

The reason I'm yapping about printers yet again is, this year, my to-do list includes having posters created for my photographs. I'd like to give family and friends framed portraits as gifts throughout twenty-ten. Not trying to start a fad, just going for some form of originality ;) There's also the yummy idea of having a desk calendar created featuring Erato's monthly highlighted images. The prospects are endless, most especially since my ideal online supplier keeps coming up with spectacular printing deals. :D

Oh & another project I have in mind is to finally put together my wedding images. Not necessarily in album form... I was thinking of organizing the photos in booklet format, to add an unexpected yet interesting read to my coffee table book selection... how's that for a "unique" anniversary present for my beloved bitter half, ya? heheh

Fred Perry

recognizing genius.

Frederick John Perry (18 May 1909 – 2 February 1995) born in Stockport, Cheshire, was an English tennis and table tennis player and three-time Wimbledon champion. He was the World No. 1 player for five years, four of them consecutive, 1934 to 1938, the first three years as an amateur. As an eight-time Slam winner, Perry is the last British male player to win any of tennis's Grand Slam events, and one of only six men in history to have won all four Grand Slam events.

In the late 1940s, Perry was approached by Tibby Wegner, an Austrian footballer who had invented an anti-perspirant device worn around the wrist. Perry made a few changes and invented the sweatband. Wegner's next idea was to produce a sports shirt, which was to be made from white knitted cotton pique with short sleeves and buttons down the front. Launched at Wimbledon in 1952, the Fred Perry polo shirt was an immediate success.

The brand, now owned by a Japanese corporation, is best known for its laurel logo, which appears on the left breast of the tennis shirts. The laurel logo (based on the old Wimbledon symbol) was stitched into the fabric of the shirt instead of merely ironed on (as was the case with the crocodile logo of the competing Lacoste brand).

The white polo shirt was only supplemented in the late 50s when the mods picked up on it and demanded a more varied colour palette. It was the shirt of choice for diverse groups of teenagers throughout the 1960s and 70s, ranging from the skinheads to the Northern Soul scene. It regained popularity when Scottish tennis star Andy Murray had it as his clothing sponsor; Murray signed with Adidas for 2010. (Wikipedia)

La Vie En Rose

Sharing with you a really cool video of a classic French love song La Vie En Rose, as brilliantly performed by Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte of Pomplamoose. The song, which translates to "life in rosy hues", was written in 1946 by Louis Gugliemi (music) and Edith Piaf (lyrics), the very singer who made it famous.

Kimmy Dora

I saw Kimmy Dora with a friend of mine yesterday and I must say that I didn't think it was possible for the shallowest of plots to actually spawn a very funny and entertaining film. Kudos to Eugene Domingo for raising the bar in comedic acting. She did a great job playing twins Kimmy and Dora (her performing prowess made the existence of the identical sisters with two distinct characters delightfully believable).

Her big name guests were just as entertaining, though all obviously took "support role" positions and still ultimately paled in comparison to Eugene when her brand of comedy came to play. It was also apparent (throughout the film) how much fun the whole production team had while shooting the movie. It generated genuine laughter from us in the audience that it quickly ceased to matter that the story was too shallow or clichéd, even.

Domingo, along with the rest of the cast (e.g., Henry Sy, Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Manny Pangilinan... hehehe) successfully ushered the film to a comical conclusion. Kimmy Dora was fun to watch, easy on the eyes and easier still to laugh at (not meant as an insult!)

Watch it with or without buttered popcorn, when not in an intellectual mood, and when running dangerously low on stuff to laugh (or smile) about.
